Abaddon is a dwarf planet orbiting Alpha Pyramidae B, a stellar mass black hole of 34.7 solar masses, at a distance of 0.13 au, while the roche limit of the black hole is 0.12 au. Any gravitational pull in the wrong direction will cause it to be torn into shreds.
For a couple of days it was the planet with the shortest orbital period for 2.7 days. This has drawn attention to the record and made someone beat it (twice), before Abaddon the record was simply empty as no one had bothered to search for it. Abaddon is tidally locked to the black hole.
Its ESI despite such a position is 0.576, higher than the majority of Hypnos system planets. Neither are ever gonna get life, because the chance of Abaddon getting eventually pulled and so torn into shreds is 100% and the entirety of Hypnos system is gonna be completely gone in just 300 000 years.
Light being distorted by the black hole as seen from Abaddon, 13 September 2025
The surface of the planet is coverd with tonns of tiny holes, its better to not come here if you are trypophobic.
Abaddon has two very simmilar asteroids orbiting it. They can be classified as Abaddon I and Abaddon II.
Abaddon is the first object of the Hypnos Region to get a name that isnt a classification like SLEEP 8 or Alpha Pyramidae that is outside of the Hypnos system.
While the black hole cannot be seen from Abaddon at all, due to tiny size, if you zoom a telescope into its direction you can see light being distorted by it. The place where the black hole itself should be located is perfectly super-dark yellow, super dark yellow is the color of space in Hypnos Region due to light pollution from bright stars and IC 1101's core.
